I for one don't particularly want to survive a catastrophe only to be thrown back into a stone-age lifestyle. I find it particularly sobering to think that our own civilisation's exhaustion of all the readily accessible resources on the planet could make it impossible for a future civilisation to rebuild. Could it be true that Planet Earth only gets one chance at hosting a technologically advanced civilisation, and we are it?
One thing we can do is to preserve resources that might help our successors to rebuild - seed banks, energy stocks, tools. Preserving knowledge would become an important aspect of building this "Ark", so in this section I plan to start building a list of the information it would be useful to have as a post-apocalyptic survivor.
